Governor Peter Mbah

Contrary to the speculation making the rounds in some quarters that Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State might leave his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP),  for the All Progressives Congress (APC),  Enugu State chairman of PDP , Dr Martin Chukwunwike,  has said that the governor has no intention to leave the party that gave him mandate in 2023.

Chukwunwike said this in Nsukka on Thursday during an interactive forum between ward and local government executives of Enugu North Senatorial District of PDP and state executives of the party.

He said the clarification had become necessary following widespread speculations in some section of social media that Mbah is planning to join another political party. “Governor Mbah the leader of PDP in Enugu State and all of us are still PDP members and the governor has no intention to join another political party.

“The governor is still flying the the flag of PDP, I urge party members in the state and the general public to disregard this unfounded and baseless speculations,” he said.

Chukwunwike said the state executives were in Nsukka to interact with PDP local governments and ward chairmen executives as a way of appreciating their continued solidarity and support for the Governor Mbah-led administration.

According to him, “The party is happy that the zonal executives in Enugu North Senatorial District, LG and wards have always given maximum support to the governor and state party executives.

“Gov Mbah is massively transforming the state with huge infrastructure in every political ward in the state. Many people within and outside the state have been asking where the governor is getting all the money he is using to embark on massive infrastructures in the state.

“All Enugu State residents are happy, the state has a smart, intelligent and performing governor who is utilising available resources judiciously and equitably.” The PDP chairman said the state executives are happy on the continuous support of executives in Enugu North Senatorial District and promised that their request would be considered.

In a remark, Mr Fabian Onah, the Zonal Party Chairman of Enugu North Senatorial District of the party said that, Gov. Mbah since assumption of office in the past two years had done very well.

He noted that what the governor had done within two years outweighed what some governors did in eight years in the state. Onah listed some of the achievements of the governor to include building of smart schools, Type 2 hospitals, construction of roads in all political wards and empowering people among others.

“Our governor has done very well, that’s why we have all agreed to reward his good work with second tenure. Gov Mbah should not waste his time coming to Nsukka to campaign for second tenure because Nsukka people are benefiting most from his administration,” Onah said.

In their separate remarks chairmen of PDP in local governments and wards commended the good performance of Mbah which they said could be seen and felt in every political ward in the state. They urged the governor to keep it up as Enugu State would be a ‘Small London’ by the time the governor finished his eight years.

They however, appealed to Gov Mbah and the state PDP Chairman to consider increasing their monthly stipends and imprest to run party activities given the high inflation in the country. Also, Chief Ferdinand Ukwueze the Chairman of Igboeze-South local government thanked state executives for the interactive forum with the zonal, LG and ward executives.

Ukwueze , who is the deputy Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Enugu State, said that Enugu State people should count themselves lucky for having Gov. Mbah as their governor who had transformed the state with infrastructures within a short period, he assured office.

He urged the state executives to consider the request of LG and ward chairmen of increasing their monthly stipends and imprest since it would make them to work harder. Earlier, Chief Jude Asogwa, Chairman of Nsukka LG the host Chairman, commended the state Excos for the interactive session with LG and ward chairmen in Enugu North Senatorial District. He said that the Nsukka people would continue to support the administration of Mbah because they have benefited immensely and would continue to benefit.
