Rangers International Football Club of Enugu, the Flying Antelopes, Sunday defeated visiting Plateau United of Jos by two goals to nothing at the Week 3 NPFL match played at the main bowl of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
The winning has placed Rangers at the 4th position with four points. Rangers played goalless with visiting Kun Khalifat of Owerri in the first match in the tournament, but lost the away match two goals to nothing by Warri Wolves.
From the blast of the whistle, Rangers exhibited a winning spirit to score goals, but none came until injury time when the curtain raiser came for Rangers through Jersey No. 23, Chidozie Iwundu. In the second half of the game, Rangers continued their dominance in spite of the Plateau boys’ efforts to contain the charging Rangers.
Plateau’s forays into the Rangers goal mouth could not yield any dividend until Rangers increased the tally at the 75th minute of the second half to cement their defeat of their opponents through their captain, Chidiebere Nwobodo.
Commenting on the outcome of the match, Plateau United Coach, Olusola Adigun, said the match was their worst. “This is our worst result so far,” he lamented. He, however, believed that as the game progresses, his team would perform better. “We believe we’ll pick up as the games progress,” he said.
On his part, Rangers Coach Keene Enechukwu, was happy at their winning, saying that it meant a lot to his team. “Victory is everything to me. We look forward to winning more matches in the future,” he declared.
