Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, through his foundation, has once again opened international doors for young people from Abia North, as the fifth batch of beneficiaries under the Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation’s Academic and Social Skills Development Program departed Nigeria for China on Tuesday.
The three outstanding scholars, drawn from across Abia North Senatorial Zone, will participate in a Senior Management Seminar on Marine Biodiversity Conservation for Developing Countries at the Fujian Institute of Oceanography in Beijing. They are: Nnenna Anthonia Onoh (Arochukwu Local Government Area), Kelechi Paul Uche (Bende Local Government Area), and Victor Chigozie Etie (Umunneochi Local Government Area).t
The training, which is fully supported by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, is expected to equip participants with advanced knowledge in marine biodiversity, encourage international collaboration, and drive innovation in environmental sustainability.
Speaking on the development, Senator Kalu, Founder and Chairman of the Foundation, underscored the value of the Nigeria-China partnership in building capacity for Nigeria’s next generation of leaders.
“The Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation believes that this training will create room for increased collaboration, innovation, and productivity. We are committed to empowering young Nigerians with the knowledge and skills needed to drive national and global development,” Senator Kalu said.
The former Abia governor and current Chief Whip of the Senate also extended his appreciation to China’s leadership, particularly President Xi Jinping and the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Yu Dunhai, for their support in strengthening educational and cultural ties with Nigeria.
“The Chinese government has remained a steadfast partner in progress. Their sponsorship of skill-enhancing programs like this highlights their deep friendship and strategic cooperation with Nigeria,” he added.
The Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation reiterated its resolve to sustain global opportunities for Nigerian youths, stressing that initiatives like this represent a practical step in creating a skilled and globally competitive generation.
Observers say Kalu’s initiative goes beyond philanthropy. By providing life-changing international exposure for young Nigerians, he continues to distinguish himself as a political leader who delivers development even outside the corridors of government.
As one political analyst put it, “If Senator Kalu has achieved this much for Abia North through private initiative, imagine the scale of impact he could drive if entrusted with higher national responsibilities.”
With the departure of this fifth batch of scholars, the Foundation has not only expanded Abia North’s global footprint but also reinforced Senator Kalu’s reputation as a leader whose politics is rooted in service, empowerment, and results.
