Okezie Ikpeazu

Former Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has broken his silence on viral reports circulating on social media that he was sentenced to death by hanging.

According to the report, which is being shared on social media platforms, Ikpeazu was convicted for allegedly stealing N1 trillion during his tenure. An Abia State High Court was reported to have delivered the said judgment after money was found in his secret foreign account.

However, Ikpeazu, who spoke on Tuesday, dismissed the claims as laughable and mischievous, insisting that the entire story was fabricated to mislead the public.

“This is not news, it is laughable”, Ikpeazu said.

Also reacting, his former Commissioner for Information in Abia State, John Okiyi Kalu, condemned the report as hate speech and urged the DSS to fish out those behind it.

He claimed that the fake news emanated from people working for “Otti”, adding that a similar fake news was recently published against Ikpeazu, and credited to a popular Nigerian music star.
