Speech delivered by Dr Ben Nwoye, Chairman, Caretaker Committee of APC, Enugu State, during the official defection of Governor Mbah to APC at Okpara Square, Enugu
It is with immense pleasure and a profound sense of privilege that I stand before you as the Caretaker Chairman of the APC in Enugu State. Today marks a truly momentous occasion, a pivotal turning point in the political landscape of our beloved state and, indeed, the entire South-East region.
We are gathered here to officially welcome a man of vision, a dedicated public servant, and a leader who has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the progress of our people: His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, Executive Governor of Enugu State.
On behalf of the entire APC family, from the national leadership down to the grassroots, I extend our warmest and most enthusiastic welcome to you. This is your new home — a home built on progressive ideals, national unity, and a genuine desire for good governance. The significance of Governor Mbah’s decision to join the APC cannot be overstated.
For Enugu State, this defection heralds an era of unprecedented development and accelerated progress. By aligning our state with the ruling party at the centre, we unlock greater opportunities for collaboration, resource allocation, and the implementation of federal programmes that directly benefit our citizens.

I thank the National Chairman of our party, Nentawe Yilwatda, who upon my appointment gave me a marching order to go and unite APC in the state. I want to assure you today, Sir, that APC has never been this united in its history in Enugu State. Former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former Governor Sullivan Chime, Gbazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu, and a host of other founding members of the party are back to our fold.
With these heavyweights back home and with the movement in Enugu State led by our Governor, Peter Mbah, I can assure you that Ndi Enugu will march to Aso Rock Presidential Villa with us from Lion Building, Enugu, come 2027, as we will be voting massively for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our Governor, Peter Mbah.
To our loyal party members, I urge you to embrace His Excellency and his supporters with open arms. Let us forge a formidable alliance, united by a common purpose: to deliver good governance, foster economic growth, and ensure peace and security across Enugu State.
