The Enugu North Local Government Area (LGA) said that it has renamed a major street after Dr Ejikeme Odumegwu for exemplary philanthropy and positive contributions to humanity in Enugu metropolis all these years.
Odumegwu, popularly known as the Owelle of Nsukka, is the Founder and Executive Director of Owelle Ejikeme Odumegwu Foundation, whose philanthropic work has touched thousands of lives in education, healthcare, community, and public amenities provision in Enugu and Nigeria at large.
This is contained in a Certificate of Street Naming document issued by the Council’s Town Engineer, Engr. B.E. Ugwu, on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Enugu North LGA, Dr Ibenaku Onoh, made available to newsmen on Friday in Enugu.
The document reads: “With reference to your application for a street name dated 30/09/25 and having met the basic requirement necessary for granting a street name in Enugu North LGA, I hereby convey provisional approval that the route in question, located within the former P&T Quarters, Ogui Road, should henceforth be known and addressed as Dr Ejikeme Odumegwu Street.
“This tarred route of about 750 metres long emanates from a point along Holy Ghost and terminates at another point along Before Bridge Connecting Zik Avenue.
“You are to liaise with the Works and Transport Department to: (i) Construct two street signposts bearing the name Dr Ejikeme Odumegwu Street in accordance with our specifications. (ii) Mount the two signposts as appropriate.
“You are, however, to note that this certificate as well as the right and privilege it conveys on the bearer is subject to review without consultation by the Local Government Council. Accept congratulations,” it said.
