A Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, checkpoint in Maje, Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, was attacked on Saturday night, leaving one officer dead.
According to information obtained by security analyst Bakastine via his X handle, the assailants, identified as members of the Lakurawa armed group, arrived on motorcycles, opened fire on the checkpoint, and withdrew towards the border forests.
The attack follows the recent rescue of the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Samaila Muhammad-Bagudo, in the same LGA.
Residents report heightened fear and restrictions on movement as the group continues to assert its presence across rural communities in Bagudo LGA, exploiting the remote terrain along the Nigeria–Benin and Nigeria–Niger border corridor.
The Kebbi State Customs Command had not issued a statement or confirmed the attack at the time of filing this report.
