Amid the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, has ordered that all public senior secondary schools in Abuja, the nation’s capital, be shut down on or before Friday, November 28.
The Director of School Services, FCT Secondary Education Board, Aishatu Sani Alhassan, disclosed this in a memo on Tuesday. According to the memo, principals and heads of schools were instructed to end all academic activities immediately and ensure students are dismissed in an orderly and safe manner.
Schools have also been ordered to notify learners, staff, and parents; adjust all scheduled academic activities; and prepare to resume on the next official school day unless new directives are issued.
NewsBits reports that last week witnessed a series of mass abductions, with Kebbi and Niger States as the worst hit. While 25 schoolgirls were kidnapped in Kebbi, over 300 pupils, students, and teachers were abducted in Niger State. The development has forced the immediate shutdown of schools in some states, like Bauchi, and at least 41 federal unity schools across the country.
