As the general elections year 2027 is gradually approaching, the leadership of the Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress APC, has declared that it “is highly committed” to ensuring that President Bola  Tinubu wins in Enugu State overwhelmingly, as well as Governor Peter Mbah  re- re-elected for a second term.

Chairman of the 7-man Caretaker Committee of the party in the state, Dr. Ben Nwoye, said this while inaugurating the Isi-Uzo Local Government and ward caretaker executives of the party at Ikem, headquarters of the council area.

Nwoye, who led other members of the Committee, which has former Speaker of the Enugu state House of Assembly, Barrister Eugene Odo, as Secretary and Ex- Minister of Aviation Mrs. Fidelia Njeze as member, said that the interim state Exco would be visiting the entire 17 Local Government Areas and 260 political Wards in the state to inaugurate their Caretaker Committee excos.

NewsBits learnt that the LGA and ward Executive positions became vacant following the recent dissolution of the Chief Ugochukwu Agballa-led (Exco) by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party on October 9, 2025, citing greater unity and effectiveness.

Addressing the Isi-Isi-Uzo New Caretaker Committee Executives shortly after the Secretary, Barr. Odo administered the oath of office and allegiance to them. Nwoye harped on the need for the grassroots leaders to see APC in their locality as a “one big united political family”, emphasising that “you must carry everyone along in all you do.”

He told the LGA party officials that the task ahead is to ensure that President Tinubu wins the state overwhelmingly, and the state Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, is re-elected in 2027, and urged them to always make peace and unity their watchword.  “And you must embark on robust mobilization of the electorate when the time comes,” he stressed.

The decision of Governor Mbah to pitch a tent with Nigeria’s ruling party remains a wise and bold step, as it has linked the state to the national political grid, according to Nwoye.

In a brief speech, Governor Peter Mbah, who addressed the Isi Uzo party officials through his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Chief Frank Anioma, expressed satisfaction with the existing peace in the area amongst party members. He said that if sustained, APC may not stress itself coming to campaign in the LGA ahead in the 2027 elections.

Explaining more as to why he decided to defect to the ruling APC, Mbah likened his decision to a case of someone traveling, and getting to the middle of his journey, the vehicle conveying the passengers developed serious fault which was beyond repair, posting that as one desirous of getting to his expected destination, the only option left was to board another vehicle to continue the journey.

According to him, the vehicle conveying them was the PDP,  but through the APC, they are sure of getting to their expected destination.

The Committee scribe, Barr. Odo, in his remark, urged the new LGA Executives to start seeing themselves as APC political evangelizers who would mobilize voters for the party in every nook and cranny of the locality at the appropriate time. He added that the choice of Isi-Uzo for the inauguration kick-off wasn’t accidental, but because of its political relevance.

Responding after receiving the APC flag and other party symbols from Nwoye, as leader of the party in Isi Uzo Council area, the Chairman, Barrister Obiora Obeagu, assured the state leadership of the party’s readiness to deliver over 100 per cent of the votes to President Tinubu and Governor Mbah in 2027.

Obeagu explained that Mbah’s numerous infrastructural developments across the three Senatorial Zones of the state in all sectors would make his campaign very easy for the APC when the time comes, adding that the governor has really changed the governance narrative in the state and Nigeria at large.

Hon. Obeagu said that the governor and APC do not need to come to Isi-Uzo for the campaign, “because the state-of-the-art Smart school, Type 2 hospital, good roads, amongst other great social amenities will do the campaign job for us.”

The state Caretaker Committee equally inaugurated Enugu East and South LGA Executives yesterday, and is expected to round off the exercise in the 17 council areas and 260 political wards on Friday.
