Former Nigerian leader, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has commended Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau for continuing with the legacies of his predecessors. Obasanjo gave the commendation at the 2025 Christmas Carols and Festival Songs organised by the State Government on Friday in Jos.
He particularly commended the governor for placing the state on the path of steady growth and development. Obasanjo said that by completing abandoned projects, Mutfwang had set the state on a good trajectory.
“Continuity is one of the things that’s lacking in our community, society, and even in our government. I’m happy with what the governor is doing in this state; his drive for continuity is what we need for the progress of our society,” he said.
The former president also commended the Plateau government for organising the event, insisting that it would promote unity and peaceful coexistence in the state. Obasanjo called on the state government to include the annual Christmas carols in the tourism calendar of the world.
He said that such a move would attract tourists from Africa and the rest of the world to the state and boost its tourism potential. Earlier, Mutfwang thanked the former Nigerian leader for attending the event in spite of his tight schedule.
The governor insisted that his administration is committed towards ensuring a more united, peaceful, and tranquil Plateau.
“The whole essence of the carols is to bring our people together. It is a ground to unite Plateau people and to begin to break all barriers. This programme will enable our people to come out of their shells and know that together we are much stronger.
“I believe that going forward, this is going to be one of the biggest platforms to unite Plateau people,” he said.
