Suspected Lakurawa terrorists have attacked a Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, checkpoint at Bakin Ruwa along the Maje border in Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing three officers and destroying property.
The attack, which occurred around midnight on Thursday, sparked fear and panic in the community. In a post on Friday, security analyst Bakastine wrote on his X handle:
“Gunmen suspected to be Lakurawa attacked a Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa community, Bagudu LGA of Kebbi State. They killed three NIS officers, set a vehicle ablaze, and destroyed the shelter area during the attack.”
A video obtained by the media shows a vehicle being set on fire and the officers’ shelter area destroyed. The mosque where the officers had taken cover was also set ablaze. The source indicated that the gunmen may have used sophisticated arms, including rocket launchers, during the raid.
This incident comes less than a month after a customs officer was killed and official vehicles were burnt at the same Maje border area, raising fresh concerns about the deteriorating security situation in the region.
Authorities and communities are being urged to strengthen collaboration and intelligence sharing to prevent further attacks, ensure rapid responses, and safeguard officers and residents in the border communities.
