Tor Sankera, HRH David Sevav, who also serves as Chairman of the Sankera Intermediate Area Traditional Council, has held an emergency peace dialogue to prevent escalating tensions between the Kendev, and Tyuluv council wards in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The intervention became necessary after reports indicated that some youths from the Tyuluv area were allegedly harassing residents, snatching valuables, and disrupting the peace in the Kendev community. Alarmed by the situation, Tor Sankera invited traditional rulers and key community figures from both sides for immediate deliberation.
Those present included the two district heads, ten kindred leaders from the affected wards, elders, family heads, and representatives of the youth groups. Addressing the gathering, Tor Sankera explained that the meeting was convened to uncover the causes of the rising hostilities, reminding both communities that they have a long history of peaceful coexistence. He expressed concern over the gradual erosion of that historic unity.
He also delivered a firm caution to criminals and external troublemakers fuelling the crisis, urging them to halt their actions at once. Tor Sankera vowed that anyone responsible for further unrest would be decisively dealt with, invoking the “wrath of Sankera ancestors” on those attempting to destabilise the area.
Responding, the District Head of Tyuluv Ward, His Highness Deuti Azande, together with elders and kindred heads, acknowledged the grievances raised and apologised to the Kendev people. He pledged that strong measures would be taken to restrain the youths and curb criminal activities.
The District Head of Kendev, His Highness Terfa Atondo, also appreciated Tor Sankera for acting promptly and urged his community members to stay calm as peace efforts continue. The meeting, coordinated by Kolough Clems Jnr, Media Adviser, concluded with a renewed commitment from both wards to uphold and protect lasting peace.
