The national leadership of the Labour Party, yesterday, inaugurated a 24-member interim executive in Ebonyi State as part of efforts to restore stability and reposition the party ahead of future political engagements.
The committee, unveiled under the authority of the party’s National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, and National Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, is led by a veteran politician, Chief Henry Udeh, popularly known as Ajim Best, who will serve as Chairman representing Ebonyi South.
Comrade Innocent Igiri from Ebonyi Central was named Secretary, while Engr. Joshua Nwede Igwebuike from Ebonyi North was appointed Organising Secretary. The party also announced Hajia Rabiu Abubakar from Ebonyi North as State Woman Leader, in a bid to strengthen gender balance.
NewsBits reports that Hajia Abubakar will work with zonal women leaders, including Chief Mrs. Ngozi Nwaleke from Ebonyi North, Mrs. Ngozi Ekuma from Ebonyi South, and Blessing Okoroafor from Ebonyi Central, to enhance female participation across the party’s structure.
To reinforce its institutional framework, the Labour Party also appointed Barr. Ikey Nwobo as State Legal Adviser and Comrade Louis Nwebonyi as Publicity Secretary. The inauguration is expected to effectively end months of uncertainty and a leadership vacuum that had plagued the Labour Party in Ebonyi State.
Reacting to the development, the leader and the 2023 gubernatorial candidate in the state, Comrade Splendour Eze Oko, expressed confidence in the new Team. According to him, “I am satisfied with the event of today. I am now convinced that
stakeholders and grassroots leaders of our great party in Ebonyi State are prepared to work with the interim leadership to rebuild unity and consolidate the party’s influence.”
In a reaction, shortly after the inauguration, the party’s 2023 House of Representatives candidate for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency, Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, described the exercise as timely, adding that the development has reaffirmed the party’s position as a credible and resilient opposition force in the politics of Ebonyi State.
