A cultural group, the Gongola Peoples’ Forum, on Saturday, in Yola, held a cultural fiesta to celebrate unity, progress, and shared cultural heritage among communities in Adamawa and Taraba.
Gen. Paul Tarfa, Chairman of the occasion, said that the event was a historic milestone in the cultural and traditional rebirth of Adamawa. He said that the event was organised by the forum in collaboration with Adamawa Unity Forum, Nigeria Indigenous Language Development Council, and Numan Federation Foundation, among others.
According to him, the fiesta was organised to promote unity, identity, and shared heritage as essential tools for peace, cohesion, and collective development.
“The gathering also offered a rare opportunity for people to celebrate together and speak with one voice on cultural preservation and unity,” he said.
Tarfa commended the Adamawa Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, for visionary leadership that reshaped the state’s sociocultural and traditional landscape. He said that the creation of seven additional chiefdoms and emirates restored dignity, recognition, and representation to indigenous ethnic nationalities across the state.
The Tol Hoba, Alheri Bulus Nyako, described the creation of new chiefdoms as historic and a dream fulfilled for the Gongola people. Nyako thanked the state government and people of Adamawa, pledging that the new traditional institutions would promote peace, unity, and sustainable development.
He also appreciated the state assembly and stakeholders for their efforts, urging residents from Toungo to Madagali to continue supporting government initiatives.
Fintiri, represented by Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Aloysius Babadoke, reaffirmed commitment to unity, cultural preservation and grassroots development.
The governor said that the fiesta showcased Adamawa’s cultural richness and demonstrated what collective effort could achieve in strengthening social harmony and peaceful coexistence.
He said that the creation of new chiefdoms across the state underscored the government’s commitment to bringing governance closer to the people, empowering communities, and preserving cultural institutions.
He said that the government remained fully committed to programmes that would promote cultural rights, stimulate tourism growth, and enhance social harmony.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the highlight of the event included the cultural dance performance and carnival parades by various groups.
