Datti Baba-Ahmed, former running mate of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, has made a U-turn after he initially declared for the 2027 presidential election.
NewsBits recalls that barely one week after Obi left the Labour Party for the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Baba-Ahmed declared his presidential ambition. The development attracted backlash, which may have now led to his dismissed claims that he never declared for presidency.
He made this clarification known in an interview on Channels Television on Friday. “I never declared to contest for presidency; I simply reiterated my membership in the Labour Party. Even though there could be a possibility for that happening.
“I clearly stated that one will have to wait for the Independent National Electoral Commission timetable and the party to make the call,” he said.
