Residents of Enugu State are currently experiencing a sharp decline in electricity supply following a reported reduction in power generation caused by inadequate gas supply to thermal power stations.
This was made known in a statement issued by the electricity distribution company serving the state, MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited, on Thursday.
According to the company, the shortage of gas has significantly reduced the amount of electricity generated by thermal power plants, thereby affecting the volume of power allocated to the distribution network in Enugu.
MEDL explained that the situation has compelled the Nigerian Independent System Operator to implement load shedding across the national grid in order to maintain stability and prevent possible system disturbances.
The company noted that the development is not peculiar to its network alone but a nationwide challenge affecting power supply across the country.
MEDL added that it is engaging relevant stakeholders to address the situation and expressed optimism that electricity supply would improve once gas supply to generating stations is restored.
The company, however, appealed to customers in Enugu State for patience and understanding, while expressing regret over the inconvenience caused by the reduced power supply.
