Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area. The government said Sunday evening that the curfew takes immediate effect after renewed violent attacks and breach of peace in some communities in the area.
“Government views these disturbances as unacceptable and has directed security agencies to enforce the curfew strictly,” Fintiri said in a press statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou.
The governor warned that anyone or group of people found contravening his directive will be arrested and dealt with according to the law. He assured law abiding citizens that his government is committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
The renewed communal clashes and total curfew are coming at a time when partial curfew was only recently lifted after deadly clashes in December 2025 that caused many deaths and destruction of houses and other valuable assets.
The government’s statement about the fresh imposition of curfew gave no human casualty in the latest clash, but sources indicated two deaths, being people attacked as they were walking to church for Sunday morning service.
