Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho has warned former presidential candidates Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi against campaigning in the South-West ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a video that circulated online on Sunday, Igboho stated that he would not allow political supporters to promote either politician across the Yoruba region. He emphasized that anyone attempting to campaign for Atiku or Obi in the South-West should refrain, as such efforts would not be welcomed. The activist reiterated his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu, declaring:
“No more Atiku or Obi in Yorubaland. If you are foolish enough, try campaigning for Atiku or Obi here. Tinubu for a second term, and beyond 2027. 100 per cent. After eight years of Asiwaju, we will pray for more years. Across Lagos and Yorubaland, it’s for Asiwaju. We will all vote for him.”
Igboho stressed that the South-West would continue to provide strong political support for Tinubu, ensuring he remains in power beyond the next election cycle. He added that residents of Lagos and other parts of Yorubaland would vote massively for the president when the time comes.
His remarks come weeks after his return to Nigeria on January 26, 2026, following years abroad. His return was made possible after the federal government removed his name from the list of wanted persons.
Several prominent traditional rulers had appealed to President Tinubu to allow Igboho to return, including Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja; Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi; and Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Francis Alao.
Igboho had left Nigeria in July 2021 after security operatives, including officers from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army, raided his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State. He was accused of keeping illegal weapons at the time.
The raid occurred during Igboho’s active campaign against armed herders linked to attacks on farmers and kidnappings across the South-West. Following the incident, he was declared wanted by the government under former President Muhammadu Buhari. His Nigerian passport was revoked, and his bank accounts were frozen despite court rulings in his favour.
