The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Giwa, has charged Enugu State residents and the government to keep up the positive habit of cleanliness. Giwa gave the directive on Monday after environmental cleanliness and comprehensive sanitation in the densely populated Old Park commercial axis of Enugu.

The commissioner, who led officers and men of the Police Command in Enugu State on the exercise, said that it marks the beginning of activities marking the National Police Day 2026. He said that the command also commenced a free and comprehensive medical outreach at the Command’s Hospital in Enugu, where free health checks and tests would be administered, free drugs, eye tests, and more.

The state police said that later in the day, there would be a Town Hall meeting with security stakeholders on the theme of the Day, which is: “Community Partnership: Building Trust.” He said that all residents are invited to the meeting as “security is everybody’s business”.

“For this morning, we are out here to keep Enugu city clean and also encourage the residents to keep up the positive habit of a clean and neat environment that promotes one’s health.

“We have covered most of Old Park with its market and bus stop areas, and we only evacuated very little refuse; unlike other cities where you have markets and heaps of refuse occupying everywhere.

“I will also want residents to take advantage of the ongoing comprehensive medical outreach and free medical consultation at the Police Hospital located at the state police headquarters,” he said.

The schedule of the activities for the week-long National Police Day 2026 in Enugu included the commissioner leading personnel on a walkathon within Enugu metropolis, while Area Commanders outside the metropolis would conduct similar exercises on March 31.

The following day, Wednesday, 1st April 2026, the Command will embark on public sensitization campaigns on electoral violence, ballot snatching, and other related offences. On April 2, the Commissioner of Police would present cheques to beneficiary families of deceased police personnel in the Command.

The grand finale of the celebration will take place on April 7, at Eagle Square, Abuja, featuring a ceremonial parade and procession.
