Opposition leaders and several concerned Nigerians are currently in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, demanding the preservation of the country’s democracy. This comes amid concerns that the country is drifting into a one-party state.
Some protesters are already at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office in Abuja as part of the “Save Democracy” protest. Many of the protesters were seen wearing “Operation Save Our Democracy” T-shirts, while others carried red and white placards with various messages on it.
Videos in circulation show protesters and some prominent politicians. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso are leading the protests. The atmosphere at the venue was full of energy as protesters chanted songs “We no go gree,” with some chanting “INEC Chairman Amupitan must go”.
NewsBits recalls that the INEC had last week derecognized the Senator David Mark-led ADC leadership.
