Two police officers have been killed after suspected bandits attacked a police team in Katsina State. The incident was disclosed in a post shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama.
According to the post, the attack happened on April 7, 2026, at about 5:50 p.m. in Sabon Garin Garu village, located in Musawa Local Government Area of the state. Security sources said the gunmen, who were in large numbers and moving on motorcycles, ambushed a vehicle carrying five personnel of the Police Mobile Force (27 PMF) who were travelling from Zamfara through Katsina.
The attackers were said to be linked to a known bandit leader identified as Muhammadu. A source quoted in the report said security operatives quickly responded, leading to a gun battle between the police and the assailants.
During the exchange, three officers were rescued without injuries, while the attackers were forced to retreat. However, two officers lost their lives in the ambush. They were identified as Sergeant Bilyaminu Babangida and Police Constable Abdulaziz Musa. The attackers also made away with the officers’ service rifles and a riot gun.
Following the incident, additional security personnel were deployed from nearby areas, including Dutsinma, Kankia, Matazu, and Kankara to block possible escape routes. Makama noted that efforts are ongoing to track down the attackers, recover the stolen weapons, and restore calm in the area.
