The Federal Capital Development Administration (FCDA) on Thursday leveled into rubbles a wing of popular estate in Abuja in disobedience to an extant, and clear orders of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja High Court.
According to eyewitness over a hundred military and para-military personnel, fully armed and accompanied by officials of the FCDA with a number of trucks moved into the estate a few minutes to 4:00p.m. in a commando style to carry out the illegal demolition.
The developer of the estate, popularly known as Jenew Estate, Karsana, which shares boundary with Queens Estate in Gwarimpa neigbhourhood was said to be in dispute with the FCDA leading to the marking of over 60 choice properties for demolition.
However, the developer according to sources available to Pointblanknews.com had dragged the FCT minister, FCDA and Abuja Metropolitan Management Council before Justice A. S. Adepoju of Wuse High Court, restraining them from carrying out the demolition.
His Lordship had in October 28, 2021 granted an order of interlocutory injuction restraining the FCDA and the minister from going ahead with the demolition of the estate pending hearing and determination of the substantive suit. But in disobedience of the court order, the FCDA had gone ahead to carry out a massive demolition and destructions of palatial buildings numbering over twenty with a threat to return for the other marked buildings.
A resident who was visibly in pains over the demolition told Pointblanknews.com, “this destruction allegedly carried out by the FCDA, contrary to an extant and clear orders of the FCT High Court, should be brought to the attention of the Court and proper legal sanctions made to bear on the culprits.”
Pointblanknews.com gathered that fear of possible attack by hoodlums was palpable as the estate security operatives are having hectic moment trying to prevent vandal from taking advantage of the demolition to invade the estate in search of ruins.
