PDP Crisis: Wike’s Group Pulls Out Of PDP Presidential Campaign Council

From all indications, the crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) appears to be increasing by the day because early on Wednesday, the group loyal to the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike reportedly pulled out of the campaign council of the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, following a meeting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

According to media reports, members of Wike’s team vowed not to play any role in Atiku’s campaign for the 2023 general elections, insisting that the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu must resign, as they had demanded several times. Wike had called for Ayu’s resignation following the outcome of the party’s presidential primary won by Atiku. The group’s main grouse is the alleged pledge by Ayu to step down from his position if a presidential candidate emerged from the North, as it eventually happened. Ayu had denied he ever made such a promise.
