The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Enugu State, Dr Chukwuemeka Chukwu has assured that no eligible voter at any polling unit in the state will be disenfranchised.
Chukwu gave the assurance in an interview with newsmen on Saturday after monitoring the process in various polling units across the state. “No eligible voter will be disenfranchised under my watch in this office. That is what I am assuring the good people of Enugu State.
“Every eligible voter that presents him or herself at the polling unit will undergo accreditation and will cast his or her vote today,” he assured. The REC commended the large turnout of voters in all polling units in the state. He noted that the mammoth turnout was “due to the belief of our people on the electoral system”.
“I must thank our people for the impressive turnout and their peaceful disposition in polling units in the state as I have visited many polling units today. As they have believed in the electoral system and that their votes will definitely count; I will assure them that they will definitely cast their votes for candidates of their choice,” he added.
He explained that the late commencement of voting was due to logistic issues in the morning. Chukwu, however, said the issue had been sorted out and voting had commenced in all polling units in the state.
