The Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital, Enugu, (formerly, Ntasi Obi Hospital, Trans-Ekulu Enugu) has been repositioned to train efficient medical personnel that will provide effective services to the public.
The Acting Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Professor Cajetan Nwadinigwe, announced this while briefing newsmen on the efforts to rebuild and equip the institution to offer quality healthcare services to the masses.
Prof. Nwadinigwe disclosed that a land space of 1000 square meters have been mapped out for the building of a 150-bed space for patients in the hospital, adding that hostels would equally be erected for students of the medical college. He explained that the pediatrics, maternal and diagnostic sections of the hospital are being strengthened for effective health care.
He said the institution would introduce outreach services to handle health cases in the rural areas while “complex cases will be referred to the teaching hospital.” The CMD was optimistic that the institution would achieve its objectives, pointing out that a theatre complex and intensive care unit will soon be in place for surgical activities and care for patients with special needs.
Prof. Nwadinigwe said any philanthropist that builds and donates to the institution would be immortalised. The Acting CMD described medical education as the most challenging in terms of cost and administration, pointing out that many health problems could be treated in Nigeria and advised the people to value what they have.
