Abdullahi Ganduje, former Kano State governor who appointed Idris Saleh as commissioner
One Alhaji Idris Saleh, a former Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, in the administration of Abdullahi Ganduje, the immediate past governor of Kano State, was on Monday arrested by the Kano Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).
The former commissioner was reportedly arrested for alleged involvement in N1 billion fraud alongside five others. The N1 billion it is understood, was meant for the rehabilitation of 30 roads and drainages within the Kano metropolis. The projects for which the money was allocated were reportedly not executed.
The money for the projects was reportedly withdrawn in three portions and paid into three companies’ accounts on April 23. Earlier, Muhuyi Magaji, chairman of the Kano anti-graft agency, said the investigation into the alleged fraud case against Ganduje would be re-opened.
Ganduje was in October 2018, allegedly captured in a video by an online newspaper while receiving and stuffing bundles of dollars into his pocket. Said Magaji: “We have decided to reopen the case against former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Our agency will conduct a comprehensive investigation into the allegations and ensure that due process is followed”. Abba Yusuf, Kano State governor, on June 21, reinstated Magaji, who was sacked by Ganduje, as the chairman of the commission.
