EBSU Student Murdered, Not Suicide, Claims Students Union President

The President of Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Students Union, Comrade Oshim Nwankwagu has claimed that the final year student of the institution, Miss Favour Ugwuka, who earlier was said to have committed Suicide, was after all murdered by some persons yet to be identified.

Comrade Nwankwagu further insisted that the deceased had been beaten in her hostel by the same accused individuals prior to her death. The EBSU Students Union President made the disclosure to reporters at the permanent site of the University in Abakiliki the state Capital on Monday.

Late Miss Favour Ugwuka, a final year student of English Department was last week alleged to have committed suicide over inability to pass one of her final year courses. The incident of her death went viral following a recorded voice note sent out through her phone which indicted one of her departmental lecturers of having deliberately failed her in one of the final year courses.

According to him, immediately the report of her death (Favour Onwuka, a final year student of English Department, EBSU) got to the union, “we took it upon ourselves to investigate it. “And in the course of our investigation we were able to uncover that there were different opinions on what led to the cause of this lady’s death.

“I’m speaking to you the media because I want all hands to be on deck. Some of the things we gathered were that this young girl was actually beaten up prior to her death. Who was with her or possibly sent out the voice note and why was she found outside her room?” he asked.

According to him, the student union is interested in knowing who are these people. Similarly, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Chigozie Ogbu has on Monday said that the poor academic performances of the deceased started from her first year in school.

Prof. Ogbu who exonerated the accused lecturer, stated that deceased would have called for re-mark of her script instead of taking her own life. The Vice Chancellor , however,  noted that the institution had sent it’s condolence message to the family of the deceased. However, the state police command has commenced investigation to unveiled the remote cause of her death.
