Sinwar’s Desperate Last Moments: Tried To Down Drone With Stick Before Building Collapsed

According to Ynet, On Wednesday, IDF forces eliminated Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar during a high-stakes operation in Rafah. Sinwar, one of the architects of the deadly October 7 attack, was killed after the building he was hiding in collapsed following intense fire from the Israeli military.

The encounter began when IDF soldiers from the 450th Battalion identified suspicious movements in a building and tracked Sinwar and two other terrorists attempting to escape. The terrorists used blankets to conceal themselves while moving between buildings. In response, IDF forces opened fire, causing them to flee. Sinwar took refuge in another building, moving to the second floor as Israeli forces targeted the location with a tank shell.

As the IDF’s Bislach unit swept the area, Sinwar attempted to evade detection, even using a stick to knock down a drone sent by the forces. However, the building collapsed on top of him, and his body was discovered the next day. “We knew Sinwar’s estimated location for a while despite the high level of secrecy Hamas maintained around him,” an IDF official stated.

Sinwar’s elimination is considered a significant blow to Hamas, as he was a key figure in orchestrating attacks and hiding within Gaza’s tunnels. The IDF continues to investigate the identity of the two terrorists who were with him. One IDF soldier was severely wounded in the operation and is recovering in intensive care.

In a statement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remarked, “The man responsible for the worst massacre in our people’s history since the Holocaust has been killed. We have settled the score with him.”
