The Nigeria Union of Medical Herbal Practitioners, NUMHP, Ebonyi State Chapter has warned Traditional Rulers in the state to stop interfering with the activities of the union. The warning was contained in a communique issued at the end of an emergency meeting of the Union, held in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
The communique reads, in full: “Arising from an emergency meeting of the National Union of Medical Herbal Practitioners, Ebonyi State Chapter held at the Union’s Secretariat Abakaliki on 11th December 2024, members unanimously resolved that: Traditional Rulers in Ebonyi State should stop interfering with the activities of the Medical Herbal Practitioners in the state. This is because their meddlesomeness has created a lot of disunity in the affairs of our union. The union urged them to concentrate on their assigned mandate of being fathers of their various communities and custodians of their people’s culture.”
“That political appointees should focus on the implementation of government policies and programs rather than delve into the administration of the Medical Herbal Practitioners Union activities as their involvement will not only polarise the union but heat the polity.”
According to the communique, the union has set up a disciplinary task force, to apprehend those who parade themselves as leaders of the Union, but not recognised at the national level.
The union also, warned that those who go about extorting money from uniformed members should desist from the act, adding that, henceforth, they will commence the arrest of culprits and handing them over to law enforcement agencies for prosecution. The communique was endorsed by the Chairman of the Union’s Board of Trustees (BOT), Dr. Stephen Ndubuisi Nwogha, and the executive members of the union.
