The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has revoked 762 plots of land in Abuja due to non-payment for Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O). These properties, situated in the prestigious Maitama 1 District of the federal capital, are owned by notable Nigerians and corporate entities.
Among those affected are former President Muhammadu Buhari, former Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen, and ex-governors Rochas Okorocha, Ben Ayade, and Seriake Dickson. Several former and current federal lawmakers, including Dino Melaye, Enyinnaya Abaribe, and Abdul Ningi, have also had their plots revoked.
Furthermore, Wike has issued a two-week ultimatum to 614 other individuals and organisations, demanding the settlement of outstanding fees or facing the loss of their Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O).
In a formal notice, the Federal Capital Territory Administration stated, “We wish to inform the allottee(s)/title holder(s) of plots of land in Maitama 1 who have failed to pay their Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) bills after the expiry of the grace period granted by the Honourable Minister that their Right of Occupancy to the land/property has been withdrawn, in accordance with Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978 for contravening the terms of grant which obligate title/interest holders to settle all bills.”
