Peter Obi Volunteers To Fulfil Farotimi’s Bail Conditions

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has pledged to meet the bail conditions for human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi. This follows Farotimi’s arraignment at an Ekiti Magistrate Court in a defamation case involving legal luminary, Afe Babalola.

The court set bail conditions requiring a N30 million bond, two sureties (one of whom must own property), the surrender of Farotimi’s passport, and a commitment to abstain from media interviews.

Tanko Yunusa, a former spokesperson for Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, made this announcement on Friday via his X account. Yunusa explained that Obi’s intervention stems from his unwavering commitment to the rule of law and justice.

“After consulting His Excellency, Peter Obi, as the leader of the Obidient Movement, he graciously offered to take responsibility for meeting the bail conditions,” Yunusa stated.

He added that Obi expressed gratitude to the courts and all parties involved, emphasizing the importance of resolving the matter in a way that upholds due process and strengthens the legal system.

“Peter Obi’s priority is ensuring that the issue is addressed in the best interest of everyone, especially in adherence to our legal principles. He sincerely appreciates the courts and all stakeholders for their efforts,” Yunusa concluded.
