The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, Mr.  Mamman Bitrus Giwa, on Saturday led a comprehensive security patrol of Nimbo, Opanda, Adani, Ogurugu, and Nkpologu communities in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of the state.

This is part of ongoing efforts to enhance security in rural communities, according to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Daniel Ndukwe, in a press release issued on Saturday. Ndukwe also explained that the objectives of the patrol were, among other things, to boost the confidence of rural residents, deter criminal activities, and strengthen synergy among security agencies operating in the area.

He said during the operation, Giwa visited both the temporary and permanent sites of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Madueke, located in the area. According to the PPRO, the Commander of the Naval Base, Commodore A. O. Odejobi, warmly received the Commissioner and later on actively joined him in the patrol while the Executive Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Hon. Uzugwu Chijioke also accompanied them.

Quoting the spokesman in the release, “He assured residents, especially those in rural areas, of the continued commitment of security forces in Enugu State to ensuring their safety and overall security.”

The Commissioner, during the patrol, was also accompanied by some of his top officers such as DCP Gregory Itobore, Head of the Command’s Operations Department; ACP Idowu Azeez Moroof, Commanding Officer, No. 3 PMF, Enugu; ACP Oyewole Kehinde Suraju, Head of the State Intelligence Department (SID); ACP Stephen Gudu, Nsukka Area Commander; and other senior police officers, according to Ndukwe.
