Former governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has boasted that the African Democratic Congress, ADC, coalition will be defeated “hands down” in 2027. Ortom said he would not join the bandwagon of politicians trooping to the ADC.

Featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the former governor said he is the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Benue State and a member of the party’s Board of Trustees, BoT, hence can’t join the coalition.

He explained that the ADC coalition can’t withstand or endure the political pressure. “People are free to join any coalition that they so wish, but for me, and the people that I lead, we remain in PDP.

“I’m the leader of PDP in Benue state and a member of the BoT; I am not joining any coalition. We have no business with that.

“I don’t see it surviving; in any case, even if they survive, if they are through with the litigation that is going on, they will be defeated hands down,” Ortom said.

Ortom, an ally of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, is among those who worked against the PDP candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, during the 2023 general elections.

The group, known then as G-5 governors, had claimed their grouse was that the ticket ought to have been zoned to the South. Incidentally, Ortom was the chairman of the PDP zoning committee, which threw the party’s presidential ticket open.
