As dust continues to be raised overĀ the gruesome of murder of a 19-year-old girl, Loveth Uloma, in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, documents in circulation have shown that concerned citizens of Opi town made efforts to stop the appointment of the suspect, Emmanuel Emeka Nwangwu as their Chief Security Officer.
NewsBits recalls that there has been outrage concerning the murder of the teenager by Nwangwu, who was alleged to have sexually abused her since she was 13 years old. Nigerians were even more angered when it was revealed that Loveth reported her ordeal to the police, but the suspect was not charged in court owing to what the Enugu State Police Command termed family intervention.
Spokesman of the Enugu State Police Command, SP Danied Ndukwe, had in his statement detailed how the teenager reported the matter to the police and how the suspect confessed to the crime. Nwangwu was, however, never charged in court. According to the PPRO, āThe suspect and family were invited to the station, where he confessed, sought forgiveness, and promised to return her property.
āThe family, citing personal ties, initially chose not to prosecute the case but opted for spiritual cleansing due to the incestuous and abominable act against the victim.ā
However, beyond this, documents currently in circulation show that Nwangwu has also been allegedly involved in criminal activities in the past, a situation that made the people of his Opi community reject his appointment as CSO.
Apart from showing their displeasure to the local authorities, they also wrote a petition to the Enugu State Government, through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government. The protest letter, which was acknowledged by the SSGās office on May 21, 2025, was signed by Barr Oliver Ezeah, President General, Ibeku Opi Community, and Mr John Chinwendu Ezugwu, Secretary General.
The Letter Was Titled: āA Humble Request To Redirect Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa, The Executive Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, To Terminate His Appointment Of Emmanuel Emeka Nwangwu- A Trans-Border Kidnapper, The Chief Security Officer (Cso) Of Ibeku Opiā.
It reads: āI humbly write to inform you that in November 2024, I met Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa, the Executive Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, and notified him that am under pressure to appoint a Trans-Border Kidnapper Emmanuel Emeka Nwangwu, who hails from Umuagwo Village, Ibeku Opi, the CSO of Ibeku Opi. I told him that it will not happen under my watch as the PG Ibeku Opi. The Chairman said it will never happen. āOur late HRH Igwe Sir Joseph Ugwuagbo Ezea died on December 3, 2022, and was buried in March 2023.
āOn 21st April 2025, Hon. Ignatius Ugwueze, pretending as Cabinet Secretary, Igwe-In-Council, released an appointment letter appointing Emmanuel Emeka Nwangwu CSO Ibeku Opi.
“I went to the Executive Chairman Nsukka Local Government in the presence of Hon. Chris Ezema, the PDP Chairman Nsukka Local Government Area, Hon. Samuel Chidiebere Iyanyi, the Deputy Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Hon. Cornelius Chikwado Ezugwu, the Secretary of Nsukka Local Government, and Hon. Barr. Cosmas Ugwueze, former Chairman of Nsukka Local Government, told me about the development in my Community.
āHon. Chris Ezema, the PDP Chairman of Nsukka Local Government, who is from Idi Opi told the Executive Chairman of Nsukka LGA that Emmanuel Emeka Nwangwu is not a candidate for Neighbourhood Watch. The mayor said that he will not be the CSO of Ibeku Opi.
āOn April 28, 2025, the Executive Chairman approved the purported appointment. Emmanuel Emeka Nwangwu removed Emmanuel from his name and added Michael when he was appointed SPA on Transport to Barr. Walter Ozioko, former Chairman of Nsukka Local Government.
āReason was that if you Google Michael Emeka Nwangwu you will not see his criminal records. Emmanuel Emeka Nwangwu as SPA on Transport to Barr. Walter Ozioko had sex with Mrs. Philomina Omeje, the wife of Mr. Boniface Omeje of Amakada Village Ibeku Opi in his office with a promise to give her a contract, and made a video of that sex and was using it to demand Twenty Million Naira (N20,000,000.00) from Mrs. Philomina Omeje, which she could not afford, and he sent the sex video viral. I have the video. He was sacked by Barr. Walter Ozioko for the above act.
āPlease sir, supporting documents are hereby attached for your perusal. We consequently beseech you Sir to use your good offices to intervene in this matter in redirecting Engr. Jude Chinedu Asogwa, the Executive Chairman Nsukka Local Government to drop Emmanuel Emeka Nwangwu as CSO Ibeku Opi and appoint any other person without criminal records the CSO knowing full well that the Government of His Excellency Barr. Peter Mba is very sincere in fighting crime.ā
Ever since the present incident, there have been concerns that, despite this protest, Nwangu was retained as the CSO of his community. But the Nsukka Local Government Council has continued to disown Nwangwu since his murder of the teenager.
In several publications, the media team to the council authority are insisting that the suspect is not an appointee of the local government. But keen watchers are worried that despite the protest from his Opi community, Nwangwu was allowed to hold such a sensitive position as Chief Security Officer.
Nigerians across social media platforms are also demanding that justice must be served on all those whose action and inaction led to the death of the young girl.
