The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it will begin legal action to recover mandates held by Rivers lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This was contained in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Ini Ememobong, on Saturday in Abuja.
The statement condemned what it described as a re-defection by some Assembly members. According to the statement, the lawmakers had earlier defected and later recanted, describing them as acting on the orders of their paymaster and demigod.
It further revealed that their conduct since assuming office had shown they were political puppets obstructing democratic progress. “They will go down in history as enemies of democracy and those who made mockery of the legislature,” it said.
The factional PDP also insisted the lawmakers had abandoned the platform that brought them into office. “Consequently, the PDP will take legal steps to activate constitutional provisions to recover the mandates gained under our banner,” it added. The statement called on party members in Rivers to stay resolute as efforts continued to rebuild the PDP on fairness, equity and inclusiveness.
