Troops of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Special Intervention Battalion 7, working alongside the 8 Division Strike Team under the Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed three terrorists during a military operation in Kadam Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The terrorists were neutralised during an engagement with a notorious terrorist network linked to the Lakurawa group. The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations of the 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed this in a statement.
According to Osoba, the operation followed credible intelligence indicating that more than 100 terrorists had gathered in Kadam Forest to coordinate attacks and kidnappings in nearby communities and move abducted victims to their strongholds. He said troops mobilised to intercept the group and made contact with the terrorists at about 12 noon.
“During the ensuing firefight, the terrorists attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre, which the troops responded to with superior firepower, effectively neutralising the threat and maintaining tactical dominance throughout the engagement,” Osoba said.
He added that follow-up operations carried out in the forest confirmed that three terrorists were killed, while several others were believed to have sustained gunshot wounds as they fled the scene. The troops also recovered a PKT machine gun, two AK-47 rifles, 350 rounds of PKT ammunition, 111 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, three magazines, two radios, three motorcycles and a mobile phone.
Osoba said further operations were ongoing to confirm additional enemy casualties and recover more weapons and equipment.
