Troops of the Operation HADIN KAI have foiled an attempted infiltration by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province at Bitta in Borno State, dealing another setback to the insurgents.

The incident occurred in Sector 1 of the military operation when the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the troops’ location. According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North-East), Sani Uba, the attack formed part of ISWAP’s efforts to regain momentum following recent losses on the battlefield.

Uba said the troops had anticipated the move and prepared a strategic offensive-defensive response ahead of the attempted assault. “As the terrorists advanced toward the troops’ position, coordinated spoiling actions were launched to disrupt their assault formation while manoeuvres were executed to cut off their withdrawal routes,” the statement explained.

The terrorists were reportedly met with superior firepower and resistance from the troops, forcing them into a disorganised retreat after suffering significant losses. The military noted that the failed attempt in Bitta marked the third major defeat recorded by ISWAP fighters within 24 hours. Earlier attacks by the insurgents at Banki and Azir Bridge were also repelled by troops.

The statement said the development underscores the sustained operational pressure mounted by Operation HADIN KAI forces across the theatre, which has limited the terrorists’ freedom of action and prevented them from exploiting propaganda opportunities.

It added that troops remain firmly in control of all locations and continue to dominate the operational environment with high morale, improved coordination, and sustained offensive operations. The Military High Command commended the soldiers for their professionalism and resilience and urged them to maintain the current operational tempo in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the North-East.
