Pioneer NANS Zone F Coordinator, Onya Declares For Senate President

Comrade Moses Ibeabuchi Onya, the pioneer Coordinator of Zone F (South East) of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Senate President of the association in the forthcoming national convention.

Onya, who hails from Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and is currently a Master’s degree student in the Department of Philosophy at Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki, made his declaration in a statement made available to student leaders and stakeholders. He has, in the statement,   outlined his vision to reposition the student body towards inclusiveness, accountability, and effective representation.

NewsBits reports that the forthcoming NANS national convention is expected to draw delegates from tertiary institutions across Nigeria, as aspirants intensify campaigns for key national positions. According to Onya, his decision to join the race was driven by a strong commitment to service and the need to strengthen the voice of Nigerian students at the national level.

Onya said: “I am stepping forward at this critical time to offer purposeful leadership that will unite Nigerian students across all zones, including our vibrant South East, and reposition NANS as a formidable force in national discourse.” He stressed the importance of responsive leadership that prioritizes students’ welfare, educational advancement, and constructive engagement with relevant authorities.

He said: “Nigerian students deserve leadership that listens, acts, and delivers. My ambition is not personal; it is a collective mission to restore the dignity, relevance, and vibrancy of NANS.”

Onya further highlighted his experience as the pioneer Coordinator of Zone F (South East), adding that his tenure gave him firsthand insight into the challenges and aspirations of students in the region and across the country.

According to him, “As the pioneer Coordinator of Zone F, representing the SouthEast, I have engaged with diverse student communities and understand the pressing issues affecting our members. This experience has prepared me to lead effectively at the national level.” He pleaded with delegates and stakeholders nationwide to support his candidacy, promising a leadership built on unity, transparency, and progressive reforms.

Onya said: “Together, we can build a NANS that truly reflects the aspirations of Nigerian students. I urge all delegates to join me in this journey to redefine our future.”
