A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Denge Josef Onoh, has dismissed as “sensational and misleading”, reports claiming mass resignations within the Enugu State Chapter of the party, emphasising that such a crisis does not exist in the party.
Onoh, who is a former South-East spokesman to President Bola Tinubu, and Chairman of the Forum of Former Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on late Wednesday. He was reacting to a publication claiming that the Enugu APC had been “rocked by mass resignations” over alleged exclusion and marginalization by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
Describing the report as “poorly orchestrated propaganda,” Onoh explained that it was designed to create a false impression of division within the party. He maintained that it does not reflect the existing realities in Enugu State APC.
He said that the Governor Peter Mbah-led administration has continued to record “verifiable and outstanding achievements” across key sectors, such as security, infrastructure, revenue generation, and human capital development.
These achievements, he said, have attracted endorsements from critical stakeholders such as the Forum of Former Members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, the Northern community in Enugu, and pro-Tinubu groups like the Asiwaju Renewed Mandate South East (ARMSE).
According to Onoh, such endorsements were based on performance, fairness, and adherence to Enugu’s long-standing principles of rotational governance, rather than the claims of exclusion being circulated in some quarters.
The politician also described those behind the alleged resignation news as “accidental politicians” driven by selfish interests. He said that their demands for political dominance were not accommodated, thereby prompting what he regarded as “resignation theatrics” and threats to defect to other parties. Onoh also accused the individuals of failing to support Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, despite being members of the APC at the time.
He said they “actively worked against” the party’s candidate during a period when open support in the South-East was politically challenging. He, however, pointed out that the political landscape has since shifted, with Governor Mbah now fully aligned with the President Tinubu-led administration and re-election ambition.
Onoh also claimed that those who previously distanced themselves from the party are now attempting to benefit from its renewed strength and strategic positioning. He said: “The current APC in Enugu State does not feel the impact of their exit in any negative way.” He stressed that their departure would rather strengthen the party by creating room.
