The Board of Trustees of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, has appointed a 13-member interim National Working Committee for the party. Wabara made this known while stressing that the move was taken in line with the PDP constitution.
NewsBits reports that the committee is chaired by Taminu Turaki. He noted that the Supreme Court judgment, which upheld the nullification of the Ibadan Convention, created a leadership vacuum within the party. This decision was taken at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held by the Governor Seyi Makinde bloc of the PDP at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Makinde said the caretaker committee was constituted to restore unity, strengthen internal structures, and ensure smooth administration within the party. He said, “This committee is saddled with the responsibility of stabilising the party and ensuring that all aggrieved members are carried along. We must rebuild trust and move forward together”.
Responding, Turaki expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in the committee members, assuring party faithful of their commitment to delivering on their mandate.
“We understand the task before us, and we are fully prepared to work with all stakeholders to reposition the party for greater success,” Mr Turki said.
