The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Enugu State Chapter, has formally welcomed members of the Obidient Movement and supporters of Rabiu Kwankwaso into its fold, in what it described as a strategic move to strengthen its chances of winning future elections in the state.
The party, under the leadership of its State Chairman, Dr. Johnpaul Anih, said the growing influx of new members reflects a shifting political tide and a collective desire among residents for a new direction in governance.
In a statement jointly signed by the State Secretary, Dr. Sebastine Okafor, and the Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Ugwueze, and made available to journalists in Enugu, the NDC expressed optimism that the development would bolster its structure ahead of upcoming political contests.
The party specifically highlighted the entry of notable political figures, including former senator Gil Nnaji, Chief Chinyeaka Ohaa, Princess Adaogbu, and Chief John Nwokeabia, describing them as influential stakeholders capable of strengthening its grassroots appeal and electoral prospects.
“The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Enugu State Chapter, warmly welcomes all new members into the party. The party also acknowledged the alignment of supporters from both the Obidient and Kwankwaso political movements, as well as what it described as the emerging Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, noting that their shared vision aligns with the NDC’s agenda.
“We also appreciate the support and alignment of the Obidient Movement, the Kwankwaso Movement, and the emerging Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, whose members share our vision for a better Enugu,” the statement added.
Reaffirming its commitment to governance anchored on transparency and development, the party said it is focused on building a platform that prioritises accountability and measurable progress across key sectors.
“Our party remains committed to building a platform that prioritises accountability, transparency, and sustainable development across all sectors. We are determined to provide leadership that listens, engages, and delivers measurable progress in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment,” it stated.
The NDC further called on residents of the state to take advantage of the ongoing membership registration, urging professionals, artisans, youths, and women to join the party in what it described as a collective mission to reposition Enugu State.
