The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, Mamman Giwa, has warned officers and supervisory commanders in the Command to properly supervise their subordinates, ensuring utmost professionalism and discipline in the discharge of their duties.
Giwa emphasised that he would not take responsibility for the “irresponsibility, stupidity or misconduct” of any police officer, irrespective of rank. The Commissioner gave the warning during the Commissioner of Police’s Monthly Strategic Conference with Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Formations, Tactical Units, Sections, and Departments.

The Conference was held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu. Giwa also relayed key directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, issued at the recent IGP’s emergency conference with senior police officers nationwide, stressing “professionalism, discipline, respect for human rights, intelligence-led policing, and responsible conduct” in all engagements with the public.
He reiterated his warning in several previous fora that “extortion, corruption, incivility, abuse of office, unlawful detention, and other misconduct would not be tolerated.”
He insisted that erring officers would face disciplinary actions in line with extant laws and police regulations. Giwa, however, charged officers to remain committed to proactive policing and public safety in Enugu State.
