Governor Seyi Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Tuesday, imposed a curfew on 10 local government areas of the state.

NewsBits reports that this comes amid concern over the whereabouts of 39 pupils and teachers abducted by bandits in the state. Weeks after their abduction, none of them has been released.

One of the victims, a teacher, was earlier murdered in a most gruesome manner. There have been pockets of protest in the state as citizens demand more action from the government.

Governor Makinde has now announced a 14-hour curfew on 10 local government areas surrounding the Old Oyo National Park, where the victims are being held by the bandits.

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, he said that the curfew takes effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026. It will run from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. and will last for 48 hours in the first instance.

The affected local government areas are: Oriire (Headquarters: Ikoyi-Ile), Orelope (Headquarters: Igboho), Irepo (Headquarters: Kisi), Saki West (Headquarters: Saki), Saki East (Headquarters: Ago-Amodu), Atisbo (Headquarters: Tede/Ago-Are), Itesiwaju (Headquarters: Otu), Iseyin (Headquarters: Iseyin), Olorunsogo (Headquarters: Igbeti), and Atiba (Headquarters: Offa-Meta, Oyo).
