The Department of State Services, DSS, has rescued the four remaining students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, who were abducted by gunmen in Zamfara State earlier this month.
The development was disclosed by Zagazola Makama, a counterinsurgency and security analyst covering the Lake Chad region. According to the report, the students were rescued during an intelligence-led operation carried out by DSS operatives in Zamfara State late Wednesday.
The operation was reportedly based on intelligence gathered by DSS operatives, leading security personnel to the kidnappers’ location. The report stated that the operation was conducted without the payment of any ransom, while one suspected kidnapper was arrested during the rescue mission.
“DSS operatives, relying on intelligence, rescued the students late Wednesday without any ransom paid. One of the kidnappers was arrested during the operation,” the report stated.
Makama further reported that the rescued victims were among six students kidnapped on June 3 after armed bandits stormed their off-campus hostel in the Low-cost area of Kaura Namoda town.
According to the report, two of the abducted students had earlier regained their freedom before security operatives intensified efforts to secure the release of the remaining victims.
The latest operation, the report added, followed days after DSS operatives rescued a professor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, during another security operation. The report added that security agencies have continued intelligence-led operations across Zamfara as efforts to combat kidnapping and armed banditry intensify.
