The Enugu State House of Assembly on Tuesday adopted the report of its Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption on the annual report of the Auditor-General on the accounts of the government of Enugu State covering the years ended 31st December 2020 to 2024.
The report was considered during plenary presided over by the Speaker of the House, Mr. Uche Ugwu. The House Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption, chaired by Hon. Chukwuma Ekwueme, had scrutinised the report as part of the Assembly’s oversight responsibility over the management of public resources.
The committee observed that the Office of the Auditor-General had followed due process in carrying out its statutory responsibilities. It, however, urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Enugu State Government to ensure the timely submission of their financial accounts to the Auditor-General.
The committee stressed that prompt submission of accounts was necessary to facilitate effective auditing, legislative oversight and accountability in the management of public funds. The House subsequently considered and overwhelmingly adopted the committee’s report.
The proceedings were witnessed by House of Representatives members of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, who were on an academic excursion at the Enugu State House of Assembly.
