The Enugu Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu team Tuesday defeated the Project Development Institute, PRODA team by two goals to nil in a novelty match as part of activities marking the Chapel’s 2026 Press Week.

At the soccer encounter that took place at the Rangers Camp training field at the Liberty Estate, Enugu, the PRODA team put up an impressive showing but could not withstand the more star-studded Correspondents’ side that handed over two goals to them. The two goals came in the second half of the game as the first half ended goalless.

From the blast of the whistle, the Correspondents’ team dominated the game and made several attempts to score, but the PRODA goalkeeper was a stumbling block until the second half of the game when the two goals came pouring in.

The Director General of PRODA, Dr. Chris Ogbobe, who took the opening match kick-off shot, was on the sideline to cheer his team to victory, while the Chairman of NUJ, Enugu, Comrade Obinna Ogbuka, and the Chairman of the Enugu Correspondents’, Comrade Lawrence Njoku, were also on hand to witness the encounter.

Though a novelty match, the game looked like an encounter of professional league players, with both sides displaying soccer artistry. The grand finale of the Press Week will come up on Thursday at the NUJ secretariat, with the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, delivering the Press Week lecture and the Chairman of EFCC, Ola Olukeyede, delivering the keynote address, while Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu will be the Chief Guest of Honour.
