The West African Youths Initiatives for Good Governance has called on the State and Federal government not to fold their hands and watch the senseless killings among other evil acts in the society. They want the government to be alive to its responsibilities by ‘strictly applying punishment on those perpetuating evils acts in Nigeria.’
The group made the call while presenting an award to the Niger State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) as well as the Secretary, Comrade Abdu Idris and Comrade Abu Nmadu respectively. The event took place at the state’s press centre in Minna.
Comrade Jerome Mainasara who led the group said their objective is to defend the interests of the youths, promote peace and good governance across the sixteen members countries of West Africa. He said they were in the state to identify, appreciates, and familiarize with the state leadership of the Union and their achievement, purposeful leadership, credibility, proper information dissemination, Union welfarism and advancement of information technology.
Mainasara also sought for their support and partnership in fighting against drugs abuse, child labour, rape, the spread of corona virus pandemic, prostitution, and violence against women in the state. He added that the group which is made up of representative from sixteen members countries like Benin Republic and Ivory coast were also planning to hold national youths conference towards the end of the year.
In his acceptance speech, comrade Abdu Idris thanks and appreciates the group for the recognition award which he describes as a challenge to him and the Union to do more towards their professional duties in the state. The chairman promised to support and partnership with the group to make a better society and the country at large.
