The Rangers International Football Club Foundation (RIFC Foundation) has called for more voluntary and strong civil coalition actions to preserve the earth’s clean and healthy environment.
The Chairman of the Foundation, Coach Ebere Amaraizu, made the call on Friday in Enugu while speaking on the essence of United Nations’ World Clean-Up Day. The United Nations had set aside every Sept. 20 as World Clean-Up Day to create awareness on global social waste challenges including the problem of alarming rate of marine (ocean) debris.
Amaraizu said that the impact of littering in the city, river and ocean cannot be overemphasised hence the need for more voluntary and civil actions to reduce waste pollution and preserve a clean and healthy environment. According to him, the Rangers Foundation holds issues around the environment in high esteem as no meaningful activity can take place in an unfriendly environment.
“Our educational and skill framework will be utilised for more skills and knowledge on recycling technology among youths. This will help them understand the dangers littering of cities as well as refuse dumps on rivers, streams and oceans poses to mankind and the environment. Thus, with this move, the foundation will Reconnect Nature to mankind,” he said.
The chairman said that the foundation would be working in partnership with Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation’s Student2Student (S2S) Initiative. Amaraizu noted that the partnership would deepen awareness on climate action which includes voluntary actions to reduce waste pollution and to preserve a clean and healthy environment.
“Our partnership with Cope and Live foundation will help to deepen positive moral rebirth in the way we litter our environment and dump wastes on rivers, streams and oceans thereby endangering aquatic existence and life. We are also in strong partnership with Campus Technology Life Initiatives (CTLI) to promote technological education and awareness among students, especially on the Waste-2-Resources Technologies Initiative.
“The Waste-2-Resources Technologies Initiative is anchored on prioritising digital solutions for the environment and using recycling technology,” he said.
