For the increasing insecurity in Enugu State to be tackled decisively, the state needs a radical governor who would take radical actions rather than one that would prefer to dance around issues of insecurity just to preserve personal interest.
The governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr. Frank Nweke, who stated this while advocating for stiffer policies, and monitoring of activities as well as occupants of Herdsmen Settlements over rising insecurity in Enugu State.
In an attempt to suggest measures with which to tackle insecurity and reduce the killings and kidnappings happening almost daily or weekly in the state, Nweke attributed the rising crime rate to the “ungoverned spaces in Enugu state.”
He said: “We need a governor that will take radical actions, not one that will skirt around the issues out of weakness or personal interests or in allegiance.”
Nweke further stated: “As much as peace and co-existence are preferred, we cannot keep losing the lives of our people to bandits posing as businessmen.”
He said that if he is elected Governor of the state in 2023, he will ensure that herdsmen settlements will stop posing threat to other residents. Nweke made the statement while engaging on a Twitter Space on Sunday night, November 27th, 2022.
In his words, “I will not allow the settlement of Fulani herdsmen anywhere in our State until it is clear that they, under the guise of herding, no longer pose a threat to lives, farmlands, and properties. Banditry and terrorism will not be tolerated in any way.”
