The member representing Zaria constituency in Kaduna State, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, was on Tuesday elected as the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives. He takes over from Mr Femi Gbajabiamila.

Abbas defeated the immediate past Deputy Speaker of the House of Reps, Idris Wase, and Mohammed Joji at the 10th National Assembly election held in Abuja on June 13, 2023. Abbas polled 353 votes out of the 359 total votes cast while Wase and Jaji scored three votes each.

The voting process in the House of Representatives was more of a coronation for Tajudeen Abbas, the preferred candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as over 98 per cent of members-elect cast their votes for him.

NewsB its had earlier in the day reported that the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Sen. Godswill Akpabio emerged as the President of the 10th Senate, while the senator representing Kano North Senatorial District, Barau Jibrin, was elected as the Deputy Senate President.
